Dropbox on KDE

What is Dropbox?
Dropbox (service) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

First of all: Dropbox is optimized to work in a GNOME desktop environment (specifically the Nautilus file manager), therefore some functions MAY NOT WORK PROPERLY in KDE (Dolphin file manager)!
I will explain how to get it work properly, plus how to start the Dropbox daemon on startup. Please note: This is how I made it work, so there is no warranty, that will work for you too. These instructions apply to the 11.2 version of openSUSE. Other releases were NOT tested.

First step is to download the Dropbox package from the website.

If you are done, extract the contents package. You SHOULD get a folder named .dropbox-dist. Move this to your home folder.
Inside the folder run the dropboxd application. The regular install window should pop up. This will guide through the installation process, and will let you create a new account, or log you into your existing one.
After the installation is complete, you should create a ~/Dropbox folder, if the installer didn’t create it by itself.

Next step is to add dropboxd to the startup applications. Open up your K menu, and navigate to System Settings. Inside the System Settings Window, navigate to the “Advanced” tab, than select Startup Applications. Select add application in the right-hand menu. Browse for ~/.dropbox-dist/dropboxd.
Accept, and you are done.

Admins or mods should check the language, I’m not a native English speaker. You should also check if I used the names (Folders, System settings, tabs, menu manes, etc.) correctly in the startup-part (I have Hungarian language installed).Thank you!

Dropbox is already available as an rpm

Well, if that works on KDE, it’s fine too.

using google i found this several months (close to a year) back
http://antrix.net/journal/techtalk/dropbox_kde.html

those instructions worked perfectly for me then, on the system in my
sig, and still does…

however, if it works for KDE4 i have no idea…

Yes, it does work with KDE 4, I can confirm this. This guy uses the exact same method as I do.

I suggest this solution…

Kdropbox 0.4.0 is working well for me also. This is on openSUSE 11.3. It downloaded the newest official daemon and it “just worked” as it were :).
