drivers/setup for Dell D610 for SUSE 11.4

I need assistance in setting up the proper drivers for the following hardware:

00:1e.2 Multimedia audio controller: Intel Corporation 82801FB/FBM/FR/FW/FRW (ICH6 Family) AC’97 Audio Controller (rev 03)

any help appreciated!

The audio should ‘just work’. The alsa sound driver is provided with the kernel.

What audio problems do you have?

The audio works (but at full blast!), the keyboard function keys to control up/down of the volume control do not work and I can not find any audio controls in any utility anywhere…

Which desktop environment are you using? For KDE, there is KMix (accessible via Kickoff Application Launcher>>Applications>>Multimedia>>Sound Mixer). There is a similar mixer for Gnome, and ‘alsamixer’ available from the terminal.

You may also have to select a different keyboard model, to activate the audio function keys. In KDE this is in Systemsettings

I have seen evidence (from searching) that the multimedia (Volume up/down) keys work with Fedora 13 and recent Ubuntu distros. It may just be a matter of assigning the keyboard shortcuts appropriately. (For KDE, this can be done via KMix>>Settings>>Configure Shortcuts).

I’ve got GNOME. found the keyboard settings but no luck. The volume controls do work in individual apps like the wave player, but I’m still searching for a multimedia tool for adjust system volumes and also a driver to work with the Dell Latitude D610 keyboard and built-in volume and speaker on/off controls. There are both the keyboard function keys and a built in hardware controls. Thanks for all your suggestions…I’lll keep plugging away!

There is an old guide here:
SDB:Using the Extra Keys on the Keyboard - openSUSE

not sure if it will help, but you could look at it.
