Drivers for ATI Radeon HD3650 - SUSE 11.00 64 bit

Hello to everybody.

I am trying to install ATI drivers on my ASUS laptop M50SA,
unfortunately after several trial I always get to the same point:

linux-amos:/home/amos # ./ati-driver-installer-8-7-x86.x86_64.run --buildpkg SuSE/SUSE110-AMD64
Created directory fglrx-install.A0Csrk
Verifying archive integrity... All good.

Package build failed!
Removing temporary directory: fglrx-install.A0Csrk

I tried the # ./ati*.run as well, but finally it send me to the fglrx-install.log for error output:

/tmp/ati.gyLvAo
Package build failed!
[Error] Generate Package - error generating package : SuSE/SUSE110-AMD64

Please some can help me to solve such problem?

Thank you.

I installed the ati drivers using 1-click install (Search here)](http://packages.opensuse-community.org/) and then ran sax2. For some reason, you need to run the x conficutation tool separately-- you can’t just restart your x-server.

Try one-click and sax2 and see if that works for you.

Thank you.

Don you mean here:
http://opensuse-community.org/ati.ymp ?

I never used your link in order to find driver, in case te above i not correct, what I have to type in the search field, and which option?

Thank you again.

amosse, I recommend going here:
Additional YaST Package Repositories - openSUSE

set that repro up as a Yast-source

Use Yast to install the driver & kernel module

then follow the howto @ ATI - openSUSE

Good luck:)

I agree with Snakedriver. Also, if during the sax2 -r -m 0=algrx step the display looks wierd, verify that sax is correctly choosing the monitor in addition to the video card. DAMHIKT.

Shouldn’t we be using ATI - openSUSE Unfortunately, at this time, when I attempt to install the ymp by hitting the 1-click-install button, I get a message after I accept the public GnuPG Key that the Validation Check Failed. The error message states that this failure indicates that the file was accidentally changed or hacked.

Can someone tell me how to proceed to get this resolved?

Many tnanks for your replies.

These are the steps I followed:

-I downloaded latest ATI driver from ATI Catalyst™ 8.6 Proprietary Linux x86_64 Display Driver - For Intel® EM64T and AMD64 Platform Architecture

-I prepared the kernel for the new drivers, as reported in ATI - openSUSE

-I ran this command:

linux-amos:/home/amos # ./ati-driver-installer-8-7-x86.x86_64.run
Created directory fglrx-install.iqB6Vv
Verifying archive integrity... All good.

Now I supposed ATI driver was installed!
After the above steps I noted that icons desktop were much smaller than before,
I always had same problem: screen brightness still very very low.

I went to the sax2 graphical interface, immediately I got the following message:
“impossible deactivate all dispalys, at least one must be active” (italian translation so so…)

subsequently graphical interface showed me:

subsequently when I pushed on trial button:

Do you think I can try to fix the above said problems or I had to go back to the tutorial (ATI - openSUSE), and start new installation again?

Thank you.

That’s the link that should work.

You can use 1-click-install that will install the latest fgrlx version:

* 1-click Install newest available drivers.

* Open a terminal and type "sudo aticonfig --initial". This will configure X to use the ATI driver.
* Restart X window manager by pressing CTRL+ALT+BACKSPACE. It will take 3-20 seconds. Alternative, you can restart openSUSE.

Alternately, you can just:

Add the ATI repository to YAST
From the software installer, search for fglrx or radeon and install the appropriate package.
run sax2 and restart the x-server with a double ctrl-alt-backspace

I did the second method. I had a lot of trouble until I realized that SAX2 needed to be run. I’m guessing that that took the place of “sudo aticonfig --initial” or ran that command under the covers for me. In the end, it really wasn’t difficult.

Good luck.

Sorry again,

I am going ahead with ATI - openSUSE guide,
in particular with manual driver package generation and installation, just to understand a bit more about console command.

When I get to run

aticonfig --initial --input=/etc/X11/xorg.conf

I get such message:
warning: could not find configurqtion file
please copy configuration file template to /etc/X11

I look at xorg.conf file in /etc/X11 and I find it.

I made, before start installlation, a copy in my /home of such file,
so I tried to copy it again from my home to /etc/X11, and run command again, but still such probllem…

Someone have some idea how to overcome such inconvenient

You can try,

aticonfig --initial --force
