Driver bug found - where/whom to report?

Hello,

there is a bug, probably a driver issue.
There are various ways to reproduce it.

Hardware needed:

  • HP Z800 workstation (latest HP BIOS installed)
  • IBM PRO 1000 PT Dual Port Server Adapter by Intel, Card Assm P/N 39Y6127 FRU 39Y6128
  • Ethernet cable
  • router, modem or the like (so you can make a connection active)
  • OpenSuse installation DVD

How to reproduce the bug:
Insert the OpenSuse installation DVD and boot up.
You will notice that the indicator lights at the network posts go down at some time while OpenSuse boots.
The lights stay down after a reboot/soft reset.
The only guaranteed working way to make the networking hardware function again seems to physically turn off power.
(Booting an OS designed for servers, like OpenBSD, FreeBSD, PC-BSD etc also appears to fix the problem).

This problem does not happen when the IBM/intel network card is not installed.
Then OpenSuseś networking deficiency is benign, there is only a wrong message that the onboard Broadcom network port is disconnected (old bug reported already in 2009). Just ignore the warning and tell Yast to use that port anyway. It will then find the DHCP network connected and fix the issue itself.

You can also reproduce the bug by adding the said network adapter into an installed, working OpenSuse system. Plugging/unplugging cables will automagically block the Ethernet ports on the computer, leaving the clueless user helpless. https://forums.opensuse.org/showthread.php/501473-OpenSuse-broken-Yast-nightmares-Dumb-user-or-real-issue .

If any assistance is needed in reproducing the bug, I have the hardware mentioned above here, and also can install a test OpenSuse installation onto a pluggable HD if needed.
So, if the Suse hardware/driver guys are interested in looking into this problem, just tell me what you need me to do.

Rather than wasting time reporting here, read this guide

I did a forum search and didn’t find any instructions. Now I know what to do. Deano, thank you.
