Download suse 12.1 with error checking with aria2c

aria2c --check-integrity=true --summary-interval=300 http://download.opensuse.org/distrib...6_64.iso.meta4

I’v mentioned the problem with suse 11.4, many bad downloads/checksums in another post. I need the correct command line to download it.

Also, has the problem with forced changes in partition sizes fixed yet in the installer? I think I understand how to fix it in windows or linux, repartition the drive back the way it was. This problem wasn’t in earlier versions of suse. My Suse partition jumped from 60 gigs to 500 gigs+, I want to make sure the suse installer won’t change my sizes again.

To download the RC I used:

Change that with the final GM URL. Also change the speed limit for your
connection.

What’s that?

Use the expert or manual partitioner and choose the sizes yourself.

My average speed is 120k per second. So, 100k?

Both don’t work. It alters partition sizes and you can’t reset them back. It should not make any changes unless you make changes. I’v tried 20 times+ to change them back. It should just leave the sizes unchanged unless you request it.

Or nothing for max speed. I limit the speed in order to not limit email and
news.

They work, you are not using it right.
I can not give you the exact steps without trying another install myself.

I downloaded by selecting mirror list, selecting a nearby mirror, then using “wget”. That method has been working fine.

The partitioning in the install can be frustrating.

I usually choose “Create partitions” or is that “create setup” - I’m not sure of the exact words used. Then, on the next screen, I select “expert mode” (or whatever the wording is). The next screen usually has an “Import” option, and I use that if I can. It finds “/etc/fstab” in previous installs, and uses that. Failing that, I can use existing partitioning with expert mode, by editing individual selections and changing whether to format and where to mount.

When I wanted to switch to using an encrypted LVM, I found the best way was to boot from a live CD to setup the LVM the way I wanted. Then, reverting to the installer DVD, I used expert mode to select the predefined LVM volumes.

With aria2c you get maximum speed. It uses several near mirrors at the same
time. If one doesn’t work, it chooses another. If a downloaded chunk has
bad checksum, it downloads again, sot that the end result is a fully
correct iso.

Thanks. I might try that next time. Or, maybe not.

My speed was close to maxing out my ISP connection. But I am actually more concerned about doing it in a way that does not cause problems for another family member working from home through the same router.

Can you pause the download and return later with aria2c?

You can limit the speed: --max-download-limit=100K

Of course. Just type ^C once on that terminal.

File not found. correct one?

Tried this:

aria2c --max-download-limit=100K --summary-interval=300 http://download.opensuse.org/distribution/12.1-RC2/iso/openSUSE-12.1-DVD-x86_64.iso.meta4

aria2c --check-integrity=true --summary-interval=300 --max-download-limit=100K [download address?]

aria2c --check-integrity=true --summary-interval=300 --max-download-limit=100K http://download.opensuse.org/distribution/12.1/iso/openSUSE-12.1-DVD-x86_64.iso

This I think is the correct link for opensuse 12.1 64bit. Right? Thanks.

Wrong.

You lose the advantage of aria2c if you give it the iso address: you give
it the metalink address.

To verify, go to the get it link in opensuse, then press the button for 64
or 32 bits, and the radio button for metalink.

Also, notice that the max download limit is appropriate for my internet
connection, you might have faster connections.

Mine is about 120k per second. I did it so I could other things while download. I use that to get the meta name. I couldn’t find the metaname. Using the line, I download it. I saw it that it tried other mirrors anyway. I downloaded and installed the dvd.

aria2c --check-integrity=true --summary-interval=300 --max-download-limit=100K http://download.opensuse.org/distribution/12.1/iso/openSUSE-12.1-DVD-x86_64.iso.meta4

I do the same. I though the rest of the world had faster connections than
mine

Yes, that’s one of the advantages of metalinks, that you give the program a
long list of mirrors. Have a look at the .meta4 file, it is text and
informative.

I looked in the download directory:

Index of /distribution/12.1/iso/

I couldn’t the find meta4 file. [Firefox: find text- meta4] Nothing. ?? Using meta4 url just gives file not found. Which is why I used the ISO file.

It works perfectly.

Hmmm, .meta4 is not in the list of files, but the new line works. Thanks for the assist.
