Doom10.org goes live - The place for video discussion

Due to various problems and drama with the doom9.org forum, specifically with some of its rules and mods, doom10.org has been started by Jason (Dark Shikari, x264 dev). Everyone who needs help on audio/video processing is highly welcome there

Doom10 Forum: Digital Video Discussion - Index

One thing I liked about doom9 is it had a “Linux, Mac OS X, & Co” subforum area. I don’t see the same in doom10.

That’s because you can post about Linux/UNIX/OS X on doom10 in any of the subforums. We don’t treat these OSes any different than Windows. Want to know something about H.264 encoding on Linux or you have a question about it? Post in the H.264/AVC forum

True. … but in doom9 I could surf the Linux subarea and learn a bunch of neat things that were Linux specific.

I left MS-Windows in 1998, and other than the occasional post about virtual dub use with deshaker plugin (which I have running under wine) I’m not interested in MS-Windows applications.

Now to do Linux specific surfing I am forced to wade thru 95% of the posts being about windows, with only a small fraction being for Linux. Doing a search under Linux is no guarantee I’ll get a good list of posts, as many users will not say “Linux” in their post, but rather will say “Ubuntu”, or “Fedora” or someother distribution name.

Plus if the title is about a Linux app that I am not familiar with, I might even miss it, thinking the app is for MS-Windows.

… I confess as a Linux user who pretty much never uses MS-Windows at home, I prefer the doom9 subforum approach in this case.

I pinged Jason about this on IRC. He’s currently away but when he comes back, I’ll let you know his response

Well, he’s not really in favor currently… but who knows, he may change his mind

[17:56] <Dark_Shikari> microchip_: I’d prefer if all boards were about linux
[17:56] <Dark_Shikari> i.e. everyone can post a linux question anywhere

I understand when one first sets up a board, there are so many wishes that one gets bombarded with , that its difficult to please all. I guess for now we just need to wait and see how it pans out.
