the easiest way to download a site is to use a tool better than a simple
browser…if it were me i would use wget with the appropriate command
line switches (which you can find with a man wget)…
but, if you are interested in downloading and then opening image files
only in GIMP you probably don’t want to snag the entire site…so, what
exactly are you wanting to do?

openSUSE®, the “German Engineered Automobiles” of operating systems!
So, Firefox will save a site as an HTML page, including all graphic objects, minus Flash content, but for an exact copy, you need to make a screen shot. You did not mention your desktop, but for KDE I use KSnapshot to save a copy of anything you see on the desktop and the image can be edited with GIMP.
Thank You,
As you see you get different answers for different interpretations of your question.
That probably means that you did not specify your question precise enough. Possible interpetations are IMHO:
helllo dear all
well the ting is that the sie i want to snag /or have as an image - is much much longer than a regular brwoser content has got. it is soooo tall - it is a site that contains all php-infos. So what should i do to get it (to grab it)
i run opensuse 11.-4 and kde with a mozillla.
ANd i need to grab the php_info from my local webserver (based on my machine here) to make it publically availabie - on the internet - as a image - to discusss which configurations i have.
thats the plan the goal
hope that i have explained enougth -if not just let me know
rgeards
You can not download the PHP code from a webite to your own system by browsing that site.
And I start to doubt now what you mean with an “image”. I guess we all think that you were talking about an image as a picture/drawing/photograph, something that is in JPEG, PNG, GIF or some other picture format. PHP is of course text and not an image.
hello
sorry forgotten to give you a hint - i want to do this - getting the whole picture of the php-:info – like so
IMHO the pictures you see there are grabbed from the screen with a tool like KSnapshot.
I will show you another one: http://hcvv.home.xs4all.nl/libfreebl.jpeg
This one shows an image of a window on my screen. In this case it is a YaST window. But that is unimportant, it is an JPEG image from a window.
It was made using KSnapshot. It can be made from any window shown on your desktop, also when it is a FF browser window. The meaning of the contents is of course unimportant to KSnapshot (and the image). The fact that FF shows a window with some text that describes some PHP feature is not important at all.
Is this what you mean, or am I completley lost?
Can you explain if it is this what you want?

Since this is only some text in the browser why not just mark it and
copy/paste to an editor.

hello hwc hello martin hello all
well it is jsut that simple. I have set up a server here . local - on my opensuse 11.4
I want to do some installatins and trials - and tests - especiall with php - theefore i think it is a good idea to make up my mind how php is configured.
and as i want to discuss all with - for example you here i want to make the whole php-info publically available.
;;Martin suggested to create a textual copy - and to put it to a pastebin-site - did i get you right Martin !?

That is what I meant. Making a screenshot as Henk said is of course
another option. Simply try both and decide what is better for your needs.

I think I am now starting to understand what you want. You want the output generated by the PHP script
<?php
phpinfo()
?>
which is a rather large HTML text with calls to images, send to your browser by Apache and then rendered by your browser in a window, to be kept somewhere for later reference.
Now apart from the fact that I doubt that anybody here is interested in that complete output (have you ever seen somebody posting this in the full length whe he has a problem?) you could try different things.
. Save the page from the browser and upload that HTML to a web-site. Then post the URL (like I did with ny YaST picture).
. Try to grab images from the several parts of the page using KSnapshot and upload them to some picture posting site.
I guess that none of these two is something to be repeated every day ;). But Then again, who is interested in all this output. One might be interested in a certain part to debuf a certain problem, but not tho whole bunch.
hello dear henk hello dear martin
thx for all the good hints - i try to play with the options - and try out several methods to deal the thing!
btw - henk where do you think a **html-file ** can **publically be made available - **is there a site or a service (even here at opensuse )
Well i only know the service of
a. pastebin (de for example)
b. imageshack.com - for uploading images
but where can i upload whole html-pages !?
greetings
dilbert
I never realy searched for it, but I have a (limited) amount of space at my ISP. And you can declare part of it being a website (that us where you got the YaST JPEG from. Butof course there can be HTML files also: HenM
Or what you may find interesting: phpinfo()
If you want to capture a screenshot of an entire HTML page (and not just the visible part, which ksnapshot and friends are limited to), I can recommend the Chrome and Firefox add-on called Awesome Screenshot - Capture and Annotate (FF version, search for the Chrome version). The annotate feature is very useful and may obviate the need to use gimp on the screenshot capture afterwards.
Hi there Henk & hi at all
well - you saved my alot of time - you pointed to the right direction… just created a extra-folder on a website - and put the sutff there.
Note - this is the php-Configuration of a quick and dirty setup server - problably some corrcrections can be done. I have to see whats going on…
first of all - i mark the tread as fixed /** solved **
**
thx at all!**

I took a quick glance at that page. Looks extremely usefull for an obvious need we all have from time to time. Thanks.
Nice you have your solution.
As you have seen I have also an (only internal to our LAN) LAMP server. But I never even looked at that phpinfo information Do you realy think it is that important?
And while you seem to be glad with the advice given here by several people, you may allow me to ask you something for the future. Can you please try to be more precise and extensive in stating what your problem is next time you come here for help? We all had severe problems in getting any idea about what you were doing. Never suppose that any of the other people here ever did the same as you did, folloowed the same strain of thought as you did and got stuck on the same problem as you did. Please explain exactly, step by step, what you did, what you expected that would happen and what happened instead. Only those things are good problem descriptions.
Enjoy your website
