I am new to SUSE (from Windows). After installing 12.3 on a HP G62 laptop, I now need to set up a network connection to an existing home network, and I cannot find how to do that. Also, is the wireless adapter already “enabled” during the installation, or do I need to set that up also?
A wired connection to the network doesn’t seem to be working too. So do I need to set up that LAN adapter also? I would have thought these hardware elements would have been probed at installation.
You are absolutely correct - I should have, after reading some other posts in a different thread. However, I couldn’t find them until I returned to the download page for the iso.
Now with the Network Folder Information: what server is it looking for here? i.e. HTTP or the server name of my ISP? Neither works. Is this the correct interface for setting up a network connection?
Also, I did not record the password for root when installing, (it was simple, and I cannot remember it - or the expected one is not correct), and YaST needs it for hardware configuration. After reviewing the SDB:Recover root password page, I enter this command: mount -o remount,rw /dev/hda1 /mnt and I get an error message saying “not mounted, or bad option”.
I am assuming I need to mount the hard disk to change the password, not the DVD…?
Read the linked threads, and I am “waiting” for the loading to advance from a Result: [OK] Reached target Graphical Interface. I am expecting an openSUSE12.3:~ prompt, but I have been waiting several minutes now (second time around - machine responds to a ctrl-alt-del reboot). How long do I expect it to go, or has it hung up on boot?
After I read the directions properly, and put a space before the 3…
The login wants a password for ROOT …which I have forgotten!
Do I have to insert this command: **“init=/bin/bash” if you are using GRUB Boot loader **into the start-up script, like it says in the reset/recover page, as well as the RunLevel 3?
