Don't forget to update online after a network install

Great new release with simpel installer. But when I do a Net install I don’t expect to have to do a online update afterwards :slight_smile:

The net installer pulls files from a static (unchanging) image created when
the installer was created. This is what is on the DVD’s, CD’s, etc.

Once the system is running, it then uses the online-update to ‘catch-up’ to
the current versions.

This makes the installer more streamlined and simpler… and thus more
robust and able to handle more system setups ‘out-of-the-box’.

Windows does the same thing… if you consider installing off a CD/DVD to be
like a ‘net’ install. Install windows, then wait as 2,457 updates parade
through your modem. (oh, and reboot… a few times) {Grin}

Windows :confused: that doesn’t sound very ambitious. Isn’t that the OS that needs 12 driver cd’s after installing a default workstation. I’m sorry but I haven’t installed windows in this century yet. Should I try it?

I reckon that if I could opt for the current updates directly that it would cost less bandwidth. If nine out off ten users do update after an install then I was taught that downloading the version that is not updated should be the exception.

Let put it this way; I would think it would be a good idea to add a install option that needs the smallest possible boot medium and that would directly download and install the latest updates available.

I know I can deselect the automatic option for this but as said I would default to update automatically and make not updating an option when you deselect the automatic configuration option.

But hey, that’s just my opinion, or do more people agree?
