I use the KDE desktop which comes with Dolphin.
Recently wasted hours trying to learn about, write and use what should have been a very simple bash script working on a stack of picture files in many directories.
Photographer contact who uses windoze of course had no idea about bash scripts but pointed out there were plenty of gui tools available.
So there are in Linux too for those like me who never learnt bash properly or forgot what what I knew.
Sadly Dolphin falls down on this as the batch renaming tool, as far as I can see, is very primitive.
I installed Thunar which works a treat.
Why should I keep Dolphin when I can use Thunar? Will I be missing something if I get rid of Dolphin?
Anybody else have a view?
You seem to think that you can only use one of them. Just have two (or three) and use that one for a task that fulfills your needs best. Welcome to the wonderful world of Open Source, where you can find many tools for many tasks.
to batch rename lot of files I use krename, simple and easy to use,not so easy as the ones for windoze but very close
and the why use dolphin for me is the selection/search bar on the bottom, fantastic
