Dolphin crashing after latest update to KDE 4.8.4

Hi there,

After the update of a couple of days ago (13th June) Dolphin crashes when right clicking on a file or trying to left click and drag a file to another dolphin pane.

I disabled nepomuk and the crashing stopped.

I was wondering if the lib file in today’s updates - 2012-06-16 15:52:40|install|libxml2|2.7.8+git20110708-3.8.1|x86_64||repo-update| - would fix the nuisance but it didn’t. Dolphin is still happily falling over - even after a reboot.

IIRC there was a problem once with Dolphin in 4.6x when the file manager would crash due to some problem with strigi and nepomuk.

It was a known problem and was fixed/healed/cured in the KDE 4.7.x release. The last one - KDE 4.8.3 was fine as well

I haven’t seen any other reports in this forum about Dolphin falling over. Konqueror is behaving OK.

I am running a 64BIT install and these are the repos I use

Happy days,

Hugh

The nepomuk issue is well reported in the Mailing List
Leave it disabled for now

Oh Hi there,

Thanks for the reply.

Mailing List, eh?

One more thing to learn about openSUSE,

Thanks.

Happy days,

Hugh

[opensuse-kde] KDE SC 4.8.4 packages (warning)](http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-kde/2012-06/msg00025.html)

FWIW

Dolphin seems to be stable if in
Nepomuk/Strigi Server Configuration
only Enable Nepomuk Semantic Desktop
is enabled

At least then file name searching is functional

This seems to be the same issue that crashes kmail and the solution (posted in another thread) is to install the soprano packages (2.7.56) from the unstable repo.

Using 12.2 M3 updated to kde 4.8.4

@dth2, thx for the info

installed soprano-2.7.56-1.3.x86_64.rpm from repo

on enabling file indexing the Nepomuk icon appeared in the system tray and now
shows working details when selected (selection made it vanish before)

it looks good, will report back if any glitches seen

which soprano works best for you?

16th June: updated to soprano due to Dolphin glitches,

My install is very stable!

should there be any worries over the following output of cmd?
thanks in advance for any reply, I’m just a little nervous over the soprano packages.

I had the same problem with Dolphin always crashing about 4-6seconds after starting it after the updated. I used Konqueror for 2-3 days instead, waiting for further updates (which did not happen). So I blindly tried to resolved it by deleting everything with the name dolphin below .kde4. No problems since (about a week or so), Dolphin works perfectly fine now, even after I manually adjusted the settings to my liking again (not much changed from default anyway).

@STurtle

thx, that’s good to know

@STurtle

Tried it and it works!!

after deleting directory /home/<username>/.kde4/share/apps/dolphin/
and re-installing soprano files from Tumbleweed depo
no more glitches in dophin / nepomuk

thx again for the tip
