1] I like my files listed by TYPE [e.g. - .mp3, .mpr, .rar, etc].
I can get this to happen by clicking on CONTROL at the top right of the Dolphin window and choosing SORT BY and TYPE.
The problem is that it will only stay that way for a few days and then it reverts back to being sorted by NAME.
Does anyone know of a way to keep this from changing?
2] I like my files shown with DETAILS and have set it up that way in Dolphin Configuration.
Again, at times [WEEKLY] it changes to COMPACT VIEW.
Does anyone know of a way to keep this from changing?
Is it possible to hardwire? these changes in the Dolphin software?
You say that the fall back to the old configuration is after a few days. Does that coincide with you loging out after a few days end login again? Or do you log out more often and do you get the old configuration “spontanious” after the Nth time you log in?
I try to find out if there is any action that can be connected to the change back. But we need your help with this. So please take care and try to find out if it happens after you stopped Dolphin and restarted it, after you logged out (as asked earlier), other … Please try to find a pattern, any pattern.

I will try to monitor for any pattern, but so far I have not seen one. I have my folders set to open each in a new window with it always opening to a specific folder [PreEdit], from which I navigate from to other folders.
I am using - ***“Use common properties for all folders” *** because I want all my Dolphin windows the same size, etc.
settings for: View -> Adjust View Properties -
***View Mode : Details Details not because of the amount of details that can be listed, but because it is listed in a downward scroll , which I prefer.
Sorting: Ascending by TYPE
Folders First
Show Hiden Files
In Additional I just have Name and Size checked only
This will not help, but I have Details for as long as Dolphin is in KDE (and I had a similar view in Konqueror before that). Never any problems of that being changed by black magic.
as far as I can tell Dolphin uses/stores per directory display preferences
the only thing I’m thinking off is maybe you’re running an app like sweeper or bleachbit which deletes Dolphin’s settings file
In the upper section ensure the view is set as you require (and as you listed above)
In the lower section (Apply view properties to)
Select “Current folder including all sub-folders”
Ensure that “Use these view properties as default” is ticked/selected.
Then “Apply”.
The “Use these view properties as default” is important, as otherwise Dolphin will use it’s own (internal) defaults on any new folder, or for an existing folder if it fails to find the “.directory” file, but, see below.
Dolphin uses view settings on a per folder basis as set by the (hidden) “.directory” file in the associated folder, or in some cases, removable media for example, the view settings are stored below “~/.local/share/dolphin/view_properties/”
…and, yes, if the “.directory” file was deleted then dolphin would the revert to it’s default view.
But, I thought it only used view settings from there if “Remember properties for each folder” had been set in “Settings -> Configure Dolphin -> General -> Behaviour -> View”, however I could be wrong on that.
