Dolphin - Better video thumbs?

Dolphin in SUSE does not come with a video thumbnailer. I installed a package named mplayerthumbs. It does the job but the quality of thumbs it produces is not as great as ones produced by the thumbnailer that comes with Kubuntu (the distro I was using before). Can you please tell me where can I get better video thumbnailers for Dolphin? Thanks in advance.

what is the name of it?
try installing it on your new ride…maybe.

dd

I don’t know its name. That’s the problem.

You can try ffmpegthumbnailer, you then need to go into dolphins
settings disable the mplayer thumbnails and activate the ffmpeg one,
maybe that’s the difference. I am not sure what Kubuntu uses but I very
much doubt they programmed their own, so if you find out which they use
you can most probably install the same in openSUSE.

Thanks for the reply. I installed ffmpegthumbnailer with zypper, but it does not appear in Dolphin’s preview options.

Check if you have the package kdemultimedia4-thumbnailers installed, I
think that was the one you need to make kde4 aware that
ffmpegthumbnailer can be used, I am not absolutely sure about that right
now, but give it a try.

And by the way tell us which openSUSE version you use.

Yes, that was the one I needed. It solved the problem. Thanks a lot.

I am using 12.2 x86_64.
