doesn openSUSE 11.0 GNOME version has C++ compiler

Hai SUSEs,

I am new this OpenSUSE. As part of my work, i need to do some tests on linux on my PC. So at last my destiny was this.

I could not get any information whether c++ compiler exists in OpenSuse 11.0 GNOME version. I ran OpenSuse from the LiveCD , but i could not find the compiler.

Please help me on this!!

My requirement is : I should be able to develop c++ programs directly from the LiveCD.

Thanks in advance!!

Hi
I don’t think it does. Might I suggest installing a more complete
system from the DVD (or liveCD) to a USB stick and booting from that.
Something like a Rally2 from OCZ, I have a 4GB one and they are nice
and fast.

For developing you really need a full installation the compiler is gcc-c++ - The system GNU C++ Compiler

IMHO a live CD is to try out a distribution and to see if it matches your hardware. As space on a CD is restricted I think it is obvious that development is not the first thing that comes to mind for to a live CD.

But of course when you install openSUSE there is a lot of additional software to install from the standard repositories. Just select Patterns from the upper left menu and then from the Development heading below it Base Development (and any others you like). This will install c++ and other packages (and will hopefuly avoid you installing c++ and then finding out you need more). You can do this selection already during the installation process.

You mean to say. While installing OpenSUSE from LiveCD, i have the option of installing software packages from the Cd itself or i need to download.

And what is a standard repository? Is it available on the CD or on the website?

Well, there is that one-click install thingy on OpenSUSE.org

The repos are remote (at openSUSE and mirrors). Early in the install you get a change to configure your network. When you then have connection to the Internet the repos will be used. The repos will be known to YaST anyhow, so you can also use them later. The most important are the so called OSS and NONOSS repos. When you have problems with them after install post in this forum for help. Normaly this is not needed.

Hi
If you install from the CD, it will add the update and online
oss/non-oss repositories via YaST->Software->Online Update
Configuration.
