I need it to convert my wav music files (on pc) to m4a for my android device
take a special look at
Rate control mode and quality
i need constant … @ 500 for better quality ( i hate VBR ) CBR is better
converting works with wine but the output file looks than like this, shown in an HEX Editor

Rather than specify “like this Windows program I like”, could you frame
your question in terms of what it is you’re trying to accomplish?
That would probably help those who are unfamiliar with your specific
Windows program point you to a program that accomplishes the task you’re
trying to do.

I doubt you have tried all alternatives before saying that you haven’t found
anything as powerful as XMedia Recode. However, if you do test at least one
of the Linux alternatives, don’t forget to post your conclusions here, as it
might be helpful for other users!
non of the programs have an “Rate control mode”-feature for AAC/M4A audio
so i cannot change it to constant and if i cannot change it to constant i have VBR (an i already said i hate VBR, it su**s)
CBR is the best!! and better is @500
the output M4A/AAC file than have a CBR between 320kbps and 510kbps, depending on the quality of the source wav
but i will never sank under 320kbps, so yeah!
do you understand me?
good news:
but i also solved the problem
XMedia Recode 3.x and up works now with wine 1.3.x and up
i tested XMedia Recode 3.0.2.5 with wine 1.3.31 and it works like a charm
xmedia recode v2.x never worked, but since v3 is out it works!
it also could be, that wine 1.3 support more win progs, than wine 1.2
but i’m glad that this powerful and free converter works now
i only can verify audio convertition, i never tested a video
