I see that the Suse 11.0 KDE installation doc has an update option when installation is performed from DVD. Is this options missing from the Live CD installation? I’ve gotten as far as the perform installation option but am too chicken to proceed with the fear that everything will be wiped out.

If by Update you mean like shown here in the dvd instructions

The CD does not have this.
I would recommend install from a DVD.
The CD is good to get the feel and see how your PC performs.
