I’m unable to change/update icons for different file types. As of now, all my .doc files are showing as a blue question mark.

I looked in /usr/share/icons/oxygen and the icon for ms word file types is there. screenshot here

I also looked here and there are two xml files for the mime type. Screenshot here

Under the KDE settings> File Associations > there are two entries for the file type. Screenshot here

I have not made any changes to any of the directories and their contents. Anyone have any ideas on how to get the right icon to show up and maybe how to change the icons in the future?

I think you will find this is just a result of KDE 4 being still under development. A lot of document icons that are used in KDE 3 have not yet been implemented in KDE 4.

It is nothing to do with file associations.

So I’m just stuck with it? That sucks, no way to maybe edit/create an xml file and point the file type to the icon ?

i don’t know if this is what your wanting or not but you can right click on the folder goto properties and change the icon there

Yes, the folders works, and in kde 3.5 changing document icons was just as easy as changing the folder icon. Like was said above, probably still waiting to be implemented in KDE 4.2.
