Doc on RAID recovery?

I am trying to recover a RAID1 disk. Its partner got wiped by what appears to be a bad PATA “adapter”.

I had the doc here somewhere, but can’t lay my hands on it.

On the new machine, with a new install of SUSE 13.2, I need to define a raid array (MD1 will work fine). But when I attempt to do with with PARTED, it gets unhappy because the second drive has had the partition “erased”. So I can’t get far enough to use mdadm…

Could someone point me to the right HOWTO or command doc?

And GOOGLE has NOT been my friend. Too many false positive hits telling people not to do this or that – a little late once the horse has left the barn, or when it is exactly what you need to do to recover.

What type of RAID? hardware/software/fake (BIOS assisted)

It was a Software based RAID.

For base documentation, try this:
http://tldp.org/HOWTO/Software-RAID-HOWTO.html

There is a pointer at the start to a more recent wiki with documentation.
