Hallo everyone, I am new here and I am also new to OpenSuse which is a new chapter for me.I am a Linux user since 2004 and I studied GTK some years and I find this Library very powerful. As most of you know, there is no enough Documentation and there are also not to many Tutorials as well on internet. I have started 3 months ago to create Videos on YouTube ( https://m.youtube.com/channel/UCeZXCNsTodx0EPcAfc6s0Ew/videos ) about working with GTK3 with CSS and C Language ( until now are 64 videos and counting…) and decided to give more (or easier) explanations when comes to its documentation.I would like to know if here are GTK developers or people interested in it?
Hi, welcome,
To answer your question: No. But, these are more end user forums, then developer forums. Still, feel free to ask, and see of someone jumps in.
One of the main GTK problem is not the Library it self, but the way how Users starts with it.
To be more precise, one choose to go for Glade instead of Learning it from scratches. This makes it more complicated even if looks very easy to work with.
There are not to many willing to learn the Library and almost always they decide to take the Short Way.
Perhaps contacting “The GTK Project” may be a better option for you.
Yes, Gtk+ books seem to be rare – I have a rather old one, in German – „Das GTK+/GNOME-Entwicklerhandbuch” – from the dpunkt.verlag – ISBN 978-3-89864-512-6 …
Currently there doesn’t seem to be much out there – to search for O’Reilly books, you’ll have to sign up for their online learning – Amazon has a couple of entries if you search for “GTK+/GNOME developer” …
There’s this from the GNOME folks: “Getting Started with GTK+” – <https://developer.gnome.org/gtk3/stable/gtk-getting-started.html> – and, also, this: “GNOME Developer Center” – <https://developer.gnome.org/>.
You could also start your own Wiki “Q&A GTK” page,
Wiki pages are easy to set up and self-maintain here… See my signature for a short Quickstart and you can view what others have done… I created my own Wiki as a semi-personal archive for interesting things I’ve run into over time that others might find useful
https://en.opensuse.org/User:Tsu2
You’ll notice that a number of my Wiki pages are “How To” which I imagine might be similar to how some of your GTK topics might be discussed as well.
After you have your page set up, spread the word… maybe even beyond openSUSE if you’re talking about generic non-distro specific topics.
And, if you do decide to create your own “GTK Corner” I’d sure be willing to link to your Wiki as a resource.

Hallo, and thank you for Your time you took to answer my Thread.
Please correct me if I am wrong, but reading you reply makes me think that you are trying to help me with the Language.
It is the opposite what I am asking.
I was asking if there are some projects, or people interested in sharing some applications as well and also if there are some people interested in the Library it self and has some Questions about it.
To be more precise I am willing to support someone who needs help with some applications in GTK and this is the reason why I was starting the YouTube channel too.
Maybe I understood wrong your reply an if it so, I apologize.
No, I need to apologize …
Yes, you’re right – you’re offering something and, I made the mistake of not reinforcing your view that, GTK+/GNOME seems to be missing independent documentation and schooling.

I may well be stepping out of line here but, SUSE/openSUSE actually supports GNOME quite well – it’s the default SUSE Desktop and, despite KDE Plasma being the default openSUSE Desktop, the openSUSE Documentation, curiously, only offers the GNOME User Guide – KDE users have to “know where to look” – doubly curious because SUSE is a KDE Patron …
<SUSE Documentation.

So, yes, my vote is that, «provided others agree», you begin a specific GTK+/GNOME area within the openSUSE Forums – the sticky question is, where?
- Development – probably …
- Programming/Scripting – as a sub-Forum – possibly …
- As a new specific Development sub-Forum – possibly …
The fact that this is a help forum for people that have problems in making small Programs/Scripts and the only question here was
Do you have a Forum/SubForum about GTK here?
Which is btw easily answered by looking at the subforums from the main page of this site, it isn’t that large that people can not find in a short time what (sub)-forums the are.
This not being a request for help, it will be moved to General Chitchat.
