Do I need to use the http://codecs.opensuse.org/openh264/openSUSE_Tumbleweed repo if I use Packman?

Do I need to add this repo:

if I aleady use the Packman repo?

Thanks

Do you have any problems with multi-media?

Please be aware that, “ OpenH264” was first published by Cisco only September last year – despite the thing being around since 2013 …

Why the openSUSE repository at that URL – no idea – you’ll have to check the mailing lists.

In the mean time, until the thing is available via the “normal” repositories (if ever), you’ll possibly be better off using the Packman repositories to avoid any licensing issues raised by the legal staff who keep an eye on the openSUSE repositories.

The openh264 repository is created to avoid legal problems.

Thanks for posting.

I had read about the availabily of codec rpms within opensuse but since I have been using the packman repo for multimedia, for years without any issues, never followed it up.

When I did a new tumberweed yesterday the repo was automatically included. I will remove it and stick with packman.

Thanks

Given the “News” announcement, I suspect that, we’ll all be moving from the H.264 via Packman to the new “openh264” repository sooner or later but, please note the statement in the OpenH264 Wiki article:

This section is here for the time being until we establish improved delivery pipeline.

In other words, when the delivery (from Cisco) pipeline is stable and running as it should do, there will no reason to continue using Packman for H.264 decoding …
