Do I dare to give openSUSE another go?

Alright so a couple of months ago I wanted to try something new. So I thought I would try openSUSE 11.1 since it looked pretty darn sweet. So I installed it on my computer and it installed nicely.

Then after the installation I noticed that my internet wasn’t working and that I would have to set it up. Since I didn’t know what IP I would use etc I decided to go over to my windows partition and check.

Then I noticed that my Windows partition had apperently gotten messed up because the internet wasn’t working on it neither, so was the graphics. I figured that maybe the hardware got messed up and a windows reinstall would do the trick as it did last time atleast. But it didn’t even if I installed all drivers and such.

But now I’ve kinda put that behind and I’d really like to give openSUSE another go. I got more experience now and I’d really like to try something diffrent to ubuntu.

Have you tried the live CD?

Have a look at your hardware here:
Hardware - openSUSE

You can get a list of most of your hardware when running a live cd
open a terminal, type su, enter
then type:

lspci -nnk

openSUSE runs smoothly on livecd, I like it alot. Just so I don’t make a mistake… will it run the same once it’s installed?

Not necessarily.
And I never install from a live CD - only the DVD.
Theoretically it shouldn’t make much difference either. But the DVD has the complete works.
For some reason a few users find wireless works on the live CD but once installed it doesn’t - at least nit immediately. But if it works on the live CD it will work on the final install, it’s just that configuration may well be required post install. Where such is required, please go about it carefully, not clicking away at all the OneClick installer you think are what you need.
The fact that you have started by asking questions here in first place is a good sign.
