DMPS does not really work

Hi folks!

My setup is current openSuSE 11.1, Gnome, ATI 1950 with ATI driver blob on nForce2, LG LCD monitor connected using DVI.

I’ve got the following problem:
Whenever the system (or myself) tries to send my display to either dmps suspend, dmps standby or dmps off, the monitor does not turn off. It just blanks the screen by filling it with black, but the LCD backlights as well as the monitor itself are still powered on, so the dpms mode requested is never reached. dmesg does not show any interesting concerning this problem.

Try changing the way the monitor is blanked in BIOS.
Also check if your monitor setup has a config to go standby sometime after the signal is blanked.
