dmesg returns empty output

Dear All,

When I type dmesg, it returns empty output.
any idea why this would happen?
anyone has tried fixing this problem?

Millions thanks!

Thomas

Yes. It probably means your adapter is fairly new and the kernel doesn’t recognize it. This isn’t a huge problem and can be worked around if you know what chipset/driver you need.
I recently worked through the same thing with my wifi NIC. The kernel was patched after that to include my USB id.

Please post the output of

lsusb

If this is a usb device.

Haven’t seen this before, there usually is something output and there’s no need to be root to run it. Something is weird with your system. Just check that you haven’t aliased it to something else by running:

/bin/dmesg
