Also, Sax2 doesn’t seem to be working and there is no xorg.conf file that I can see of.

Yes, it can be frustrating for those affected. AFAIU, this situation has been rectified in KDE4.6, so that display modes are persistent, as discussed in this bug report:

That’s correct. However, if necessary /etc/X11/xorg.conf can still be created with any required entries as outlined in the following thread:
Yea, I read that thread and created the xorg.conf with the Preferred resolution in it. It is working now.

Glad that you got it sorted. Hopefully, the KDE desktop environment will take care of user-defined display mode (persistently) from openSUSE 11.4 onwards.
