Display name question

As great changes always bring their little mishaps there is one small thing I want to nag about

In suseforums.net my display name was set different then my login name. This is one setting I can’t find here.

Is it something I am overlooking or is there no option to set/change the display name?

Other than that I think it has been a good step in integrating the forum with the openSUSE.org site. Was not expecting it to be so seamless & good job done there!

Cheers,
Wj

That’s a feature vBulletin doesn’t have. I was looking for it too when we first got the development instance up.

Thanks for the quick reply Keith…

Win some, lose some. No biggy in that sense.
I might open an enhancement request though

There is one other thing that made me think we had lost some content in the merge.
When entering the archives (like tips & tricks) only a few items are displayed.

Setting the filter to 'Last year ’ would be more friendly I think? Or is this done in favor of performance or other?

Cheers,
Wj

You’re right. The parent forums in the archives are set to show all threads, but the children (at least the couple I looked at) are set to show past month by default. I’ll fix that. Lots of little things to tweak…

Lol… me & right. Thats quite unique
Good to hear that can be tuned & thanks!

Is that better? I might have to set each child forum too, but with my permissions, it’s showing everything now.

I’m guessing the setting seems to stick to your account only?

Looking through the archives as guest gives me a ‘last day’ view
Looking through them logged in shows me ‘last week’ , which I have set as default for my account.

The settings I’m changing are the default global settings. Your changes are specific to your account.

Let’s work on a particular subforum, say the tips forum for SF. When you go there fresh, what do you see? As I said, I might have to change things specifically for each child if the settings aren’t inherited.

I did get how you meant it

opening this link as guest defaults to ‘Last day’ view:
Tips, Tricks & Tweaks - openSUSE Forums

and opening as myself shows my own set default of ‘last week’

This is the same sub forum we are talking about?

I’ve also tried clearing my firefox cache, but still the same last day view applies…

Looks like I’ll have to explicitly set the child forums. Give me a bit…

Okay, the defaults for all of the Archive content is to show all threads. Since it’s read only, any other setting will eventually hide everything, so it seemed best to show all content.

Hi Keith,

Sorry for the lag in response, but had some visitors tonight.

It looks good now, guests browsing will get full lists and so far it looks like individual user settings (those setting this know what they are doing you would hope :stuck_out_tongue: ) get honored when logged in.

Getting to like this forum setup more and more now I’m finding all the nice features like quick links and auto subscribe to posts that you reply to. This will aid well in keeping track of them.

As far as I am concerned the way to be doing it!

Good job done!

Wondering weather you site admins/mods and testers are already thinking of adding new features and maybe also an idea to add a sticky post on the forum ventilating them… and maybe even some usability tips and tricks… If I’ve missed that something like this has already been placed forgive me

Cheers,
Wj

ps the added edit within ten minutes is golden too!!
