I have a Sony Vaio VGN FZ160E. The auto config didn’t set up my desktop/monitor correctly. I’ve got a 800x600 patch in the upper left of the display (15.4") with a blank strip along the bottom and to the right. I’ve tried changing the config in YaST without success.
Can anyone help me with this? The correct resolution is 1280x800.
Have you tried Yast --hardware → graphics card & monitor → check it has the monitor correct under “Monitor – change” and that the video rate is correct under “monitor – change”. Also check it has correct video card – probably it has.
I had the same with a VGN SZ4M. It has a 13.3’’ display wit 1280x800.
Sax detected a 15.4’’ display in 800x600 resolution.
It was not hard to change the resolution to 1280x800, but I had to
change the max. refresh rate to 65Hz because 1280x800 needs 62Hz - don’t
know why.
Next problem: intel xserver calculates the DPI wrong, although I entered
the correct display size in sax (was the same in 10.3). I had to
experiment a lot and change the display size in xorg.conf to some very
strange values to get the right DPI and right font size.

Yes, I’ve gone into YaST and it identifies the 965 video correctly and I change the monitor to LCD → 1280x800@60hz, but when I try to save the settings and Sax2 tests it, it’s still 800x600…
I wonder if it could be related to the horizontal or vertical sync settings? I have a problem with these setting on a 19" LCD monitor I used to have (for a desktop system). Yast couldn’t set the sync values properly and the monitor gave an out of range error…
Resolved!
I was going to load 10.3 back on to see if I could notice some difference in settings and then noticed the F3 Boot Option during the install that offered a 1280x800 selection. So I put the 11.0 DVD back in and during the install I changed the screen size and that has solved the problem.
