Disk Compression Utility

Hi,
I am trying to find some kind of utility that will compress every file that i put onto a hard drive.
All the files will be Audio or Video and as a result I think I will rapidly fill up the disk (mainly with video).
Does anyone know if such a utility exists for Linux?
I have found lots for windoze but not openSUSE.

If it is any help I am running OpenSUSE 11.0

Have you looked at Ark? Bear in mind that if the formats you are using already involve compression, you may not get much more anyway.
