I downloaded the 4.7 GB OpenSUSE 12.3 DVD (for 64 Bit PC) from the OpenSUSE website today and tried to install it on my computer. The installation went fine, but when I rebooted my system I received this message “Disk Boot Failure, Insert System Disk & Press Enter” and can not enter my system without placing the installation DVD back in and starting the process again.
I went into my BIOS settings and changed the starting order of some of the devices (hard disk, floppy, cd drive, …), but I still receive the same above message.
It sounds like perhaps the boot loader (grub / grub2) was perhaps installed on the wrong drive / partition, or there is some other boot loader config issue.
In order to get assistance it will be necessary to provide some additional information.
Please run the following command from Konsole (Applications -> Terminal -> Konsole Super user mode).
You can do this from the LiveCD, without needing to re-install again:
#blkid
and
#parted -l
That information may assist in troubleshooting your issue.
You can also run Yast -> bootloader and take a screenshot (using kscreenshot) of the boot loader config main screen and options screen, and save it to a flash drive or email it to yourself and post the pictures.
Thank you for your quick reply. I am new at Linux so any and all advice is worth its weight in gold.
I got my system up and running. I at first partitioned my entire HD to ext4. I then installed PCLinux on my PC and followed their partitioning suggestions. After that I check to see if anyone posted to my thread and was happy to see your reply. I then installed OpenSUSE again and when I got to the suggested partitioning I selected Create partitioning setup". I then followed the purposed settings and rebooted my system and it worked OK.
The only problem I had was that there was no Internet connection anymore. I used my tablet to search for remedies for this in the OpenSUSE support forum and found a way to resolve this matter.
Everything seems to be working OK and is up and running.
Well done resolving your issues. Could you tell me what settings you applied when in ‘Create Partitioning Setup’ please - I am have problems getting to the ‘Automatic Configuration’ part after the installation? (I am installing it on a HP DL120 server with 4x2TB hard drives).
