Discover vs. zypper dup

Discover runs in my taskbar. It frequently shows updates available. I frequently update via zypper dup. Rarely, Discover shows an update that was not seen in zypper. More often, Discover shows needed updates that have already been updated via zypper dup.

Is there a meaningful difference? Is there a setting I missed to avoid this duplication? I have a few flatpak apps installed. I thought this might be related but I checked a random update listed in Discover and it comes from a repo I have included in yast.

What have I done wrong this time?

We use Flatpaks too. We always do a “zypper dup” first, then if a reboot is required, or need to do a logout / login, we do that first.

Then when logged back in, then run a Discover Update check. For us, doing as such results in updates required to support the Flatpak components.

After a zypper dup, if you run a “zypper ps -s”, it will show what may need to be restarted … why need to do Discover Update last
