I just installed OpenSUSE 11.1 on my brand new Eee 1000HE and am super excited. I haven’t used Linux for about two years and it’s good to be back, though I’ve fallen a bit out of touch with how things are run.
I’ve tried to find where to disable the OpenSUSE progress bar during boot and logging on; I would like to see how the boot is doing on my Eee. I know there’s a hotkey (though I can’t remember what that is) to disable it when you want to, but I’m looking for a way, perhaps in Yast, to just disable it by default.
Sorry if this is a rediculous question, I’m a fairly new user.
Just open “Configure Desktop”. There is the “general” tab will be the option “Appearence”. Click on it. You will see a tabs like “style”, “colors”, “Icons”, etc… There will also be a tab of “Splash Screen”. Click on it and select “none”. That’s I assume what you want…
Thank you so much! I never figured it would be so easy to find… All these modules spread out over a few different configuration programs is a bit tougher to get used to, but its just a matter of time and a little more investigating, which I’m all up for. Thank you! case closed
Welcome - as another new user, I hope you like suse as much as I do!
The ‘hotkey’ you were looking for is ‘Esc’. It can also be used at the graphical boot menu to drop into a simpler text interface which arguably gives you more idea what’s going on.
