Dim display with openSUSE 11.4 RC2

On my Toshiba laptop (Intel 965 GM on board graphics and KDE) the display, with or without mains power supply on, is dimmer than with 11.3. When reawakening after a period of keyboard inactivity the display is further dimmed. this continues until the display cannot be read. I have attached a couple of comments to Bugzilla 656638 but I do not know whether there is a work around. Has any one any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

wjohnk, you did not tell us the laptop model number. It is hard to look up advice on hardware without more information. In general terms is there a manual method to adjust the brightness on this laptop? For instance, on my Dell, there are these Fn key functions, including brightness adjust, that still work even if the software control of it does not.

Thank You,

The Toshiba model is L40-156.

Fn + F7 does increase the brightness and Fn + F6 decreases the brightness as per the Toshiba instructions. The problem with openSUSE 11.4 RC1 & RC2 is that something in the code decreases brightness when going to sleep mode by more than it increases brightness when waking up.

I have run into the same thing before with openSUSE 11.2 and my Dell Laptop. I am not sure that you can do anything but use the manual controls. When I get home tonight from work, I will look up your laptop and see what I can find out.

Thank You,
