i’ve moved from Gnome to KDE since a week or so, and i like what i see. Most the setting up has been easy, however i’ve come across a problem with Digikam.
In Gnome, using F-spot, the photo’s from my digital cam were imported to my hdd into folders created with the datestamp of the pic as the foldername. For example a pic taken today would create a folder 2009/01/01 on my hdd.
In Digikam all my pics are downloaded into one folder (or album), with no subfolders with date of the picture taken. I am aware that Digikam saves that info in the pic inself, so within Digikam i can view the pics of a certain date. I can’t view this in Dolphin, as there are no folders created by date.
Is this (creation of folders by date of pic taken) possible with digikam? Search of different fora and the manual hasn’t given me any luck finding an answer.
Sorry I don’t know of any way to do this in digikam but you could postprocess your files with the CLI command jhead, which can rename files to any pattern derived from time and date components. According to the man page, if / is part of the pattern, any necessary directories will be created.
I rename photos by date and time, but only the filename, not the directory. The directories are named after themes, like a whole holiday or perhaps a country in a holiday.
i am aware of the possibility of downloading packages that i don’t use or nee, to be able to use F-spot or an other program. Just as i am able to download the complete Gnome DE along side KDE to use all the Gnome apps ‘in’ KDE or the other way around. But to reduce memory footprint and to avoid waste of diskspace (i’m using a laptop and am not intending to buy a larger hdd) i was trying to find a KDE-native solution.
Perhaps i really am the only one trying to find a solution for this problem, as no one else thinks this is a problem?
