Difference between repositories

What’s the difference for the Kernel between Tumbleweed and Kernel:stable (Index of /repositories/Kernel:/stable/standard) The version is both 3.0.3.
After having the problems with the tumbleweed kernel and my HP printer I switched to the Kernel:stable but still want’s to know what’s different between them?

Strictly speaking, I don’t think these is much if any difference between the two kernels, pegged at the very same version. In Tumbleweed, meant to be a continues roiling update, some files included with it must be compiled again the kernel version. With the kernel version included, it has a configuration which can be modified and which may be different, but you would have to load the two configurations to see if there was any different. Kernel configurations basically set what kernel modules that are loaded by default and what modules are present and can be loaded on-the-fly. The modules which are loaded by default and their configuration make up the main difference between a kernel-default and kernel-desktop with the latter being optimize for use with a desktop like gnome or kde.

Finally, you can compile your ow kernel and have it use your default configuration. I have a bash script that can do that for you and work with any version of openSUSE still supported.

Thank You,

And the kernel switch between the repositories solved your printer problems? A bit unusual, as HP printer stuff is usually done at a much higher level (cups, hpijs, etc. come to mind).

That’s why I posted this message, I do not understand why I don’t have this problems with the Stable Kernel i.s.o. the tumbleweed kernel.
