did somebody try libreoffice 4.2 in the factory repo?

on opensuse 13.1, how it works??

Yes, tried, failed, regretted it.

Libreoffice fails to open with error “the user interface language cannot be determined”. Deleting libreoffice directory in ~/.config/ and/or a reboot didn’t work.

There’s discussion of it here: http://www.marshut.com/ippyxp/libreoffice-4-2.html perhaps somebody will work out a solution.

For the moment, as I need a working version, I’m downgrading to 4.1.

Running 4.2.0.4 on 13.1 quite happily. Installed using rpms from the Libreoffice site.

I have tried twice with suse repo (Factory) failed both times (new
download) with same error. I also fell back to 4.1.4.2.

Do you have the link you used to download from?

Have you switched all libreoffice packages to the versions from that repo?
I.e. like described here:
http://en.opensuse.org/SDB:Vendor_change_update#Full_repository_Vendor_change

If not, you might have had some mixture of packages from both versions, which would explain why it didn’t work.

And AFAIK the packaging scheme has changed there, so you might want to check manually in YaST->Software Management if you miss some packages you might need from that repo.

Please note that I haven’t tried libreoffice from the Factory repo, so I don’t know if they work.

Yes I did do this. But just to be sure I just did it again with YaST:

  1. selected the Factory repo, disabled the libreoffice repo for 4.1.
  2. All packages for update in the repo were the same version,(used
    switch system packages).
  3. Rebooted to be sure I had correct versions in use.

Still get the same error message:

“the user interface language cannot be determined”
</QUOTE>

Later today I will download the version from LibreOffice website and try
it. If I remember in the past you could have both versions install
becuse the LibreOffice website version installs into /opt and SUSE
version installs in /usr.

Is this still true?

Thanks for your help.

Well, I just installed libreoffice from the LibreOffice:Factory repo, and it starts fine here.
I just used the 1-click install (http://software.opensuse.org/package/libreoffice, the one for the 4.2.0.4 version from LibreOffice:Factory of course), and only allowed vendor change when YaST showed a dependency conflict resolver dialog (so I did nothing special, I had the 4.1.4.2 packages from the update repo installed before).
I did notice 2 problems straight away however:

  • It’s not fully localized, it uses a mixture of german and english on my german system.
  • Only the “Sifr” icon style is available.

After manually updating all icon-theme packages to 4.2 as well, the icons are now “normal” again (i.e. oxygen is used) and all styles are available in the settings.
But the translations just seem to be incomplete still (german at least). I’m not sure if that’s an upstream issue or a packaging problem.

Later today I will download the version from LibreOffice website and try
it. If I remember in the past you could have both versions install

No idea, sorry.
But you could check by opening the downloaded RPM with Ark, or running “rpm -qlp filename.rpm” before you install it.

You can browse inside the rpm with ‘mc’, even copy and “install”
separate files out of it.

I’m running LO 4.2.1 in 13.1 and Factory without a hitch. I downloaded it from LO’s website.

At first I couldn’t get Draw to work but discovered it was because I hadn’t installed the whole package. I left out Impress and Math as I don’t use them. When I loaded these everything worked as it should.
I mainly use the spreadsheets.

Yesterday I downloaded 4.2.1 from LO website. It installed fine, no
errors and runs writer and calc with no errors so far. I updated some
spreadsheets yesterday and printed labels this morning wit 4.2.1. This
was after re-down loading 4.2.0 from Factory. It installs fine but
will not start writer or calc, get fatal error and closes. Message
same as before ( About language interface. I restalled 4.1 and its
working. Installing in parallel is possible because openSUSE installs
to /usr/share and LO version installs into /opt.

It will work you uninstall LibreOffice and then reinstall it. It does not work just removing the repo and then readding the repo.

It worked for me in both a VM and a normal install. I don’t know what

  1. enable the repo
  2. uninstall LO
  3. reinstall LO
  4. make sure all the parts are synced to the new repo (I had to do a dup/YAST work for that).

It should work after that. I have no idea what it’s not doing on the upgrade that it does in the reinstall.

Alternatively, you might be able to do a forced reinstall, but I didn’t test that.

Thanks for the information. I did uninstall 4.1.4 to see if it worked.
It didn’t. I will try uninstalling again and make sure something was
not let hanging. 4.2.1 is working good. I also noticed last knight
there is an update to 4.1.4 in the repo. Did not look at the version
info, since I was in the middle of something else. I’ll post result
later today after I get home.
