I recently read that the Leap 16.1 RC will follow after the SLES 16.1 RC is available, which it is (as Leap is based on it).
So, is this the first RC release?
Check the screenshot below. Very interesting. You can now choose Standard mode or Immutable mode.
I wonder if one or the other mode lacks features that the other mode has (like available software or DE, etc … not if one is Immutable )? I guess I’ll have to install each mode separately in a VM and check it out
.
I guess it’s not an RC … I’m experiencing an error (two errors with Immutable) that does not allow proceeding with the install. I’ve tried a few options.
Check the screenshot.
If I select Immutable mode, I see these two errors at the “Software” section.
If I select “Standard” mode … I only see the “NetworkManager …” error in the Software section.
There’s no way for me to install this release - will have to wait on the next build
.
As the Title suggests, I think this is an RC release (A recent post out here suggests / confirms that).
The installation issue(s) I showed previously does not show up now.
.
Because the new release now includes the “Immutable” option, I installed that first. Sorry to report … definitely NOT an acceptable experience (KDE wise).
98% of the bad experience was/is configuring KDE Plasma desktop settings. Almost EVERY setting change I made, would not show immediately - even simple changes. To see the result of a change(s), I had to logout / login to make the change effective.
.
So, about 4 or so hours ago, I installed using the “Standard” mode (vs Immutable mode).
Completely different (very positive) experience making changes to my user’s KDE Plasma settings. When I made a change, the results showed up immediately. No re-login required.
It took about 10-15 minutes to make all my (historical) KDE settings to match my 15.6 system. With the Immutable mode install, I spent almost two hours, to include frustration. I’ve since deleted the Immutable VM.
