Did 3.1.10-1.9 kernel remove and add files in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d ?

I’m just coming back to better health after a flu/head-cold and just at the start of that illness I updated all the computers in our house to the newer 3.1.10-1.9 kernel (plus some other updates).

I noted today changes in the /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d directory. … I can no longer see the files 50-device.conf, 50-monitor.conf, nor 50-display.conf. And I notice files with new dates that I do not recall seeing there before: 00-system.conf, 10-unsupported-modules.conf, and 99-local.conf.

Is this something systemic I did to my PCs, or does everyone else see the same ?

Assuming this is not something systemic I have done (I should know better to update when I am sick), could some one point me to the mailing list thread where this change was debated, discussed, decided, and documented, so I can better understand the logic here ??

Thanks !

I should add , the above was on a 64-bit openSUSE-12.1 install.

FWIW here is my status, I’ve been through all kernel updates, mainly in Tumbleweed,
as you can see, last change to any file there was Nov 16 2011

Glad to see you are back.

The last 3 you mentioned are part of the module-init-tools package. I’m not sure why the Xorg .conf files are missing, unless xorg-x11-driver-video is missing for some reason. How bad is that cold?

Updated to that kernel (11 May) on my 64-bit openSUSE-12.1, and still have those three files present.

And I notice files with new dates that I do not recall seeing there before: 00-system.conf, 10-unsupported-modules.conf, and 99-local.conf.

I don’t have these files present in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d

Did you check to which package the files belong (if any)?

rpm -qf /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/00-system.conf

and so on (btw I do not have that files)

PC: oS 12.1 x86_64 | i7-2600@3.40GHz | 16GB | KDE 4.8.3 | GeForce GT 420
ThinkPad E320: oS 12.1 x86_64 | i3@2.30GHz | 8GB | KDE 4.8.3 | HD 3000
eCAFE 800: oS 12.1 i586 | AMD Geode LX 800@500MHz | 512MB | KDE 3.5.10

… or the darn files were never missing in the 1st place. :frowning: :frowning:

The flu/cold was bad and I still have not fully shaken it.

Now I went back to the same PCs and the proper files are there ! … < sigh > …

I must be ‘losing it’ …

The only thing I can figure is I typed

ls /etc/modprobe.d

over and over and over on PC after PC after PC, instead of typing

ls /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d

and I was too under the weather to realize my own stupidity.

Probably I should not touch computers when sick.

My most sincere apologies for another oldcpu wasted thread. :frowning:

Back to bed for you Lee!
