Diamond Xtreme Sound 7.1 Audio card driver

I just installed openSUSE 11 today. It’s my first foray into the Linux world, and I had high hopes. So far the experience has not been bad, but I’m getting a bit frustrated with a problem I have run into. I have a Diamond Xtreme Sound 7.1 Audio Card. This card has DDL optical out, which I was using previously to connect to my Surround Sound System through a reciever. SUSE did not recognize my audio card, so I don’t have the optical out or the regular 7.1 channel out. I can’t find a driver for this card anywhere using google. Does anyone know where I can find a good driver for this card that will allow me to use its full functionality? Thanks!

Typically in Linux there are two openSUSE drivers: OSS and alsa. OSS is depreciated, and alsa used most the time. Alsa contains the default audio driver that comes with most linux distributions. You can read about that here:

Also, if you are new to Linux, you probably should read up on some very basic openSUSE Linux concepts:

I do not know if your Diamond Xtreme Sound 7.1 Audio card is supported well. You could try working your way through the openSUSE audio troubleshooting guide:
