The entertainment industry once was a small group who would visit the town and entertained for whatever the villagers could give them.
Gradually entertainment industry grew as marketers arranged to bring entertainers to perform in more places for what these market organizers felt villages could be persuaded to pay.
Modern entertainment industry grew as marketers presented packages of entertainment to the world, for whatever these market organizers felt could be obtained.
Modern producers of entertainment gradually increased their returns as this process developed.
Entertainment is now produced with some reasonable return to those involved in performances which entertain.
Unfortunately marketers, (not real % for simplicity) at each level added their 10% so each level of marketing raised the prices charged, with them doing better than performers; So performers started demanding percentages of gross/net returns; As costs added on, audiences needed become larger to recover those costs, with all involved chasing higher and higher returns and profits…
The internet makes delivery easier, with fewer marketers in the middle, eventually online entertainment prices will stabilizes so those providing entertainment receive their fair share, and those purchasing at a fair price.
Many comfortable lives currently in the middle shall vanish.
Entertainment industry problem is similar to problems faced by stable-hands and blacksmiths as motor transport developed, same as found in other industries as newer ways to provide products the same standard only cheaper are found… modern transport reduces impact of distance, eventually defeats most attempts to nationalize, restrict import/export to protect products.
Every community has thieves, those who steal to obtain for nothing. such shall continue.
In most communities, the majority accept reasonable compensation for reasonable effort and shall continue to contribute where they wish to.
Most communities retain their purists, collectors, puritans and Taliban who prefer things done old fashioned way, reality is their fellow travelers become fewer and fewer.
Internet turned once tiny markets into our entire world and beyond.
Entertainment industry challenge is to continue producing what people wish to purchase at prices people feel reasonable to pay.
Such is life with liberty and market economics.
