Detecting motherboard model

Is there some way of detecting what motherboard is in my computer short of opening the case and poking around?

I need to update my OS. I’m still on OpenSuse 10.3 and just got the last update for it and a notice that I should upgrade. I’d like to, but I think I need to upgrade my video card.

I have a HANNS-G HW191 wide screen monitor, but my existing video card can’t really handle that. I’ve got it set for the widest display it can manage, and that’s just stretched a little wider. I can live with that, but–whenever I try to update my OS I get a black screen except for a “no input signal” warning.

So as far as I can tell, I need to figure out what motherboard I have so I can determine which newer video cards it will support.
