Desperate

When I try to set up my printer a Canon Pixma MP530, there is no driver! Only the Generic ones and they don’t work.
On Ubuntu using the Pixma MP500 driver works just fine, but there is no option for that on suse. Only for HP and Generic.
Please help!
The only solution I have found was turbo print, and that costs $30. I am hoping to find a solution, I really like SUSE, but I may have to go back to Ubuntu.

See if this thread helps you to install a working Canon driver:

Printer Canon LBP 3100 - Not printing Headache

(I hope it applies to your model as well).

Well I found a driver, but not from your link.
Turns out, all I need was the gutenprint package.
Another problem, I am using correct driver, but when I try to print, nothing happens!

It could still be a driver problem.

  1. Did you configure it via YaST, or via the CUPS web interface (using a browser):

http://localhost:631/admin

  1. Does it at least test print ok? If not, take a look at /var/log/cups/error_log for any errors.

  2. Consider downloading and installing a driver from here:

Short intermission. I see that someone with knowledge about printing allready came to your rescue. But that is not because you mentioned in the title of you thread (“Desperate”) anything about printing. Next time when you have a problem and start a thread, please choose a title that tells something about your problem and not about your feelings. A good title might draw the attention of the right people.

The Link to Canon Europe has no Linux driver. CAPT does not work either.
But Under manage printers, the canon with gutenprint shows up and I get:
“The PPD version (7692457) is not compatible with Gutenprint 5.2.7.”"
My version of gutenprint is too new?

Ok. Did you try the MP500 model driver? I see some threads suggesting it might be ok to use

Another thread concerning the same printer model. (Always pays to search for old threads first).

I don’t have this hardware, so not possible for me to test. (If you really can’t make it work, I would consider using the distro that works with your hardware).

The canon MP500 driver is from Gutenprint, that is the one I am using, when I try to print anything it gives me an error and the options to diagnose, after the Diagnose Dialog, it says there is no obvious solution and gives me a log file.

Also, I might Have touched cupsd.conf to allow connecting from localhost. I edited the file with nano /etc/cups/cupsd.conf , today I read somewhere I should use the -w flag with configuration files…

Here is Log File from error the diagnose my printer problem thing:
Page 1 (Scheduler not running?): {‘cups_connection_failure’: False} Page 2 (Is - Pastebin.com

Just an Update, I removed cups, cups-client, gutenprint. I deleted the /etc/cups directory and installed the packages I previously removed, still the same result, so it is not my cupsd.conf.

YES!
I FIXED IT!
Well sorta…
I reverted to an Old version of gutenprint, and it works great now.

What ever it takes

It might pay to file a bug report with https://bugzilla.novell.com/index.cgi
