I had a beautiful default KDE 4 screen with a small window on desktop with all frequently used icons including my computer icon. I am not sure how entire window and content disappeared now.
Can anyone help me to bring back the window and icons. OS is opensuse 11.1 default installation
Are you using KDE 4.1.x or higher? If so, that “folder view” window just shows the folder with all those icons in it.
Right click an empty space on your desktop and click add widget. Scroll down to the Folder View widget and select it, then click Add Widget.
If you know where that folder is, often times your Desktop Folder or some /Home sub-folder, then set the Folder View Widget to show show that folder.

I am Using KDE 4.1 . I have added this widget to desktop but it looks like a tiny icon, no way i could resize it
Hmm… Well usually when you add the folder view widget it will either show the desktop or the /home folder.
You should also be able to resize it by hovering over it and choosing the resize action from the tab.

I’m using KDE 4.2.1 but it should still be similar to that.

You probably have it running, but with wrong plasma-settings. If you remove /home/yourusername/.kde4/share/config/plasmarc and plasma-appletrc and then kill the X-server by Ctrl-Alt-backspace (twice), login again and you will be able to refurnish your desktop, whilst all other settings remain

Haha well, the background only costs $129.95 from the Microsoft website. And even comes with this free OS called Windows Vista 
Yes it was almost similer to the one you shown on your screen. I can not expand/resize the folderview it simply shows as an icon.
I restarted the xserver multiple time, no use.
I observed one more thing. None of the widgets are woking as expeted. For example analogue clock widget is showing the time 12.00 stationary. Dictionary widget does not return any results. Comic strip widget is not showing anything.
For testing I have downloaded few more widgets from internet new widget as well not working
Try renaming your .kde folder to .kdeold.
This will create a new .kde folder and restart your computer. It will wipe out your settings related to kde, but if the broken functionality of your widgets is due to some type of kde configuration it will reset it and hopefully fix it.
