Desktop freezes at random

I have since upgraded to 15.1 and I did have one random freeze shortly after upgrading (when I had not been running a VM) but have had zero issues with freezes over the last three weeks or so until about 30 minutes ago when I fired up that windows VM again…and experienced a system freeze/crash about 5 minutes after shutting down the VM (which I have since switched to using the virtio driver instead of QXL). I’d been messing with a CentOS installation in a VM for about a week and have had no problems. About the only thing that seems to be consistent with these crashes is running a windows guest. Has no one else run into this problem running a windows VM? I can’t seem to be able to run one without crashing my entire system (I even had the same problem using virtualbox). I also did a fresh install of 15.1 and it made no difference…and I tried using the tumbleweed kernel, same problem. I have two hard drives on this laptop as well, a HDD and SSD. I’ve tried moving the virtual disk file from one drive to another thinking it might be some read/write issue…nope, same problem with either drive. Anyone have any idea what might be causing this problem?

I’m tempted to install another distro and see if I can run a windows VM in it without crashing, but I’d really rather not go through the hassle.

I think I may have narrowed down the problem. The only reason I’ve been using windows is for a couple applications that do not run on linux, but I usually use netExtender every time I run windows. However, today I decided to install it on a linux Mint VM to connect and I ran into the exact same problem (locked up the whole system). I previously had problems getting netExtender to work properly on openSUSE so I quit using it on this distro (I would lose DNS resolution after disconnecting and was not always able to restore it with netconfig). So, it appears windows may not be the culprit at all, but this 3rd party app, in which case, this may not be a big deal.
