thanks in advance
Welcome to the forums Jenedge73. You’ll need to give us details about your graphics card and driver. From a terminal window, issue the following command:
/sbin/lspci -nnk
Find, then cut and paste just the lines pertaining to your graphics card.
An alternative command that can yield detailed results:
/usr/sbin/hwinfo --gfxcard
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: nVidia Corporation NV34 [GeForce FX 5200] [10de:0322] (rev a1)
Subsystem: LeadTek Research Inc. Device [107d:290a]
Kernel driver in use: nouveau
I guess then if my video card can’t handle the 3d graphics the “desktop effects” icon won’t show up in my control centre. Am i right?
thanks
If you install the Nvidia drivers from the Nvidia Repository you might be able to get desktop effects working.
To enable the Nvidia repo go to YaST Software Repositories > Add > Community Repositories. To install the driver use YaST Software Management.
There are three versions of Nvidia drivers. Legacy (96.xx.xx), GeforceFX (173.xx.xx), and Gefore 6xxx and newer (270.xx.xx). If I am not mistaken you would need the one for the FX (173.xx.xx).
Yes, try installing the proprietary nvidia driver:
He will need the one YaST will automatically prechoose.
