"Desktop effects were restarted due to a graphics reset"

Whenever my system returns from power saving, I get the following error:

“Desktop effects were restarted due to a graphics reset”

and sometimes Plasma completely restarts. I am running the Nvidia drivers.

Does anyone have any ideas? Thank you. (Tumbleweed)

I used to get this notification after resuming the system. I believe you should see KWin restarting. I don’t know if there’s a way to fix from nvidia side. It did not happen if compositor was disabled.

I have since switched to the integrated GPU for rendering/output and have not experienced the error anymore.

What do I lose if I disable the compositor?

I presume my the “intregrated GPU” - you mean on your computer (i.e. onboard graphics) which are presumably NOT Nvidia?

“Desktop effects” blur, transparency, etc. Try it: Alt+Shift+F12
