Everytime I login I have to manually enable the Desktop effects, and they work fine. I save the profile. But when I Logout / reboot / shutdown the next time I log back in, the desktop effects are gone and I have to re-enable them again. Plz help, isn’t there anyway to keep them auto-enabled?
Also the Superkaramba widgets do not autoload, but superkaramba system menu icon shows. What’s wrong with my suse?? I’m using Kde3.5

make a link of desktop effects and copy it to autostart folder.
Thanks wolfreka, don’t now how to make a link, don’t know where autostart folder is, all other distro’s that i have used you just enable desktop effects and it works.
Mark
the autostart folder is \home<username>.kde\Autostart (note the period before kde).
Are you using the latests KDE (ie version 3.5.9 or 10)? Also what video card do you have and by desktop effects, are you talking about compiz-fusion?
Thanks cybertaz, i’m using gnome not kde and yes compiz-fusion and cairo-dock, my card is nvidia 8600 gt, opensuse 11.0

I had the same problem…the solution is to enable the kde compiz wrapper for the desktop.
You can do so at: configure desktop(personal settings) —> Kde components —> Session Manager ----> click the Windows Manager drop down menu…select Compiz custom
This will enable the compiz stuff every time you log into kde.
I don’t know much about GNOME, sorry.
Did you download and install the NVIDIA drivers?
Hi cybertaz, yes it shows i have the latest drivers and nvidia is in the repositories,in SaX2 it shows my nvidia 8600 gt card and the right resolution. So i really don’t know what to do? every thing seems to be set up ok. Any ideas would help!

open a terminal window and type nvidia-settings. that will bring up the nvidia control panel application. The first thing to do is to make sure the drivers loaded. You should see the driver version listed when it first starts on the right-hand side. What version are you using?
Now my system has started doing it as well!!! I think it has something to do with cario dock. It started when I installed that.
I have the same problem!
i have a dell inspiron 1520!
my graphic is Intel 965 GM (in SaX -> Monitor -> card:)
i’m using suse 11.0 and KDE4!
what should i do?

Hi cybertaz, I have 173.14.12 which is the new one.I think you are right RJWEcology it does have something to do with cairo-dock,i think i will uninstall the dock and see what happens. Ya emab after looking through the forum you are not the only one having this problem with KDE4, I don’t know what to tell you. Every one have a great day.

In KDE just enable desktop effects, I think you all found that. Next make a file and put the following in it:
#! /bin/sh
sleep 5
emerald --replace ccp &
Put this in the folder: /home/<itsme>/.kde/Autostart
This will start emeral with the window decoration you selected.
Another way is to put the compiz fusion-icon in /Autostart
For the people who had DT-effects working before, abviously they have no issue with the nVidia driver.
I’m at a loss with this one guys sorry. If things started after installing cairo dock, then I would recommend removing it and then see if that fixes the problems.
Also, just for kicks, re-install the NVIDIA drivers. I have done that to fix some desktop effects errors. I do it the long way (command line not YaST) and have seen the files (after install and after an update or something similar) get corrupted, and re-installing puts the correct files back.
Thanks again cybertaz, i did try the nvidia drivers reinstall, didn’t work. So what i did i reinstalled opensuse ( only installed a wk, so nothing to lose ) and used avant for my dock and everything is working great. Again thanks for your help.
