Desktop doesn't start

Hello Everyone
After yesterday’s openSUSE Tumbleweed system update, I can’t log into the desktop.
Currently, the system only boots in console mode.
I should add that when logging in as a user, this message appears

Yesterday, after updating using the Discover program and restarting the system,
The login window appeared, but entering the password caused a black screen to appear and then the login window again.
From the console, I logged in as root and restored the system from a snapshot.
Upon startup, a message like the one below started appearing.

I restored an even earlier version and executed the command sudo zypper dup

The error no longer appears, but I don’t know how to enable the desktop.
I checked in YaST that the service (DisplayManager) is not starting.

I would greatly appreciate help in fixing this.
I should add that I’m sending this message through a running snapshot where everything works.
I am a new Linux system user.
Regards.

Tumbleweed is not updated; it is upgraded. Attempting to update instead of upgrade can leave the system in an inconsistent state. Do not attempt to use Discover for normal system upgrades. IMO mainly only for app searches or adding additional apps can it be expected to work fairly reliably.

The error message in your first image suggests that the /home/marcin/ directory may not exist. If it’s a separate filesystem, it may be failing to mount. Content of /etc/fstab, output from ls -l /home/ may help to explain the situation.

Including your normal user login, with all personal files available and apps working? If that’s the case, then results from following previous instruction above may fail to be useful.

The recommended way to update on TW is: sudo zypper dup

It is not recommended to use Graphical User Interface programs.

Tumbleweed is upgraded and not updated. You can use YaST to upgrade the machine if you wish to so also.

-Seasons Greetings :grinning:

Thank you very much for your help.

I managed to fix it by adding the appropriate entry, and all the files appeared.

I restored the system from a snapshot, updated it, and everything works fine now. :grinning:

I’ve been an OpenSuse user for a few months, and I get a notification that updates are available in the Discover program, so I press update.

From today, I will be doing this with the sudo zypper dup command.
