In order to be able to help you, please provide as much information as you can. which version are you running, were you able to run successfully before, what happened that is not working, etc?
latest version first time user installation went fine problem is when im in logging the icons are flashed for like 1 second then disappear just leaving the green background
So this a new install?
But have you recently installed anything?
dualboting with windows xp on a 20 gb parttion before i installed i had ubuntu on it working fine with xp gtg be back in 10-20 hours
I take it then that you have never logged in properly yet?
because i cant if i could i wouldn’t be on the fourms all i see is the log in thing then i put my password then all i get is the green background
What’s the video card you have, and please summarize what you did so far to get this working.
Guys - I don’t use gnome - But does this sound like that issue recently with Cario.
I can’t really see how. But…
I wonder if the OP can use another WM login
its a dell extremegrapics integreated i belive
i think i can use a nother “wm login” ima check when i get home
Try IceWM
I have the same issue but I can give more detail. It is happening on my underpowered test machine. It has a celeron coppermine chip and only 256 MB of RAM.
I am at 11.3 milestone 3 and KDE 4.4. ICEWM runs fine. I was having spontaneous reboots that may have been caused by nepomuk starting up and sucking up all the RAM. However, it did boot to a normal screen.
I did a zypper dup to see if that would help and now I have the same problem as the OP.
Without doubt - switch off strigi/nepomuk
Consider more RAM or if not that try using LXDE
Almost the same problem.
Just a new linux user. I had installed succesfull OpenSuse11.2.
I could’nt activate Compiz Fusion because my Nvidia Gefroce 8800GT was not installed. So i did a upgrade en selected everything under the tab upgrades. After that a reboot and nothing more than a white screen. When i pressed ctrl+alt+left mouse i had the cube in white but not normal desktop in Gnome.
So desktop is gone.
