Desktop customization question

Dear All
is there any application similar to osx candybar for linux?
I mean, how can I select specific icons for specific function (e.g. volumes or folders) independently from the settings in the icon-theme?
Thank you very much

never seen an osx candybar, and you didn’t say which version of SuSE or
which window manager you are running, so i’ll answer for SuSE 10.3 with
KDE3.something…maybe it will work for you, maybe not:

  • right click on the folder whose icon you wanna change

  • select properties

  • in the new window, on the left, near the top of the “General” tab you
will see the currently used icon…

  • single left click on that icon and a new window named “Select Icon”
will open, you may pick from the shown ‘system icons’, or click to
‘other icons’ or browse for the one you REALLY like…

  • single left click on your choice

  • click ok and you are done…

good luck, have fun, welcome to software freedom…

thanks for your answer, I am using indeed kde 3.5.9, in suse 11.
Anyway, probably i have formulated my question a bit unproperly.
What i meant is how can i pick a whatever icon for let’s say representing a new folder and everytime i create a new folder the file manager uses that specific icon automatically without having to go through the procedure you have described?
How can you make up your “custom” icon theme?

Yes, there is a similar iconbar.

Look for cairo-dock.
But you’ll need Compiz to use it.

Take look at kde-look.org, you will all eyecandy that you need there.

no idea, good luck with it though…
