Desktop corruption during initial login 12.2 x64

Hello,

I’ve installed a few versions of OpenSUSE in the past, but this time on 12.2 I’m getting a corrupted screen during the initial login to KDE. By chance I discovered if I logout (by pressing the power button - I can’t actually see anything on the screen apart from random squares) the login screen reappears and then if I login, the KDE desktop is as normal. Pretty weird. Has anyone heard of this? I’m using a standard Nvidia 9800 for video. It also happens on an older card I have (I think it’s a 6600) I tried since the hardware was my initial suspect but now I’m pretty certain there’s some KDE init issue.

Cheers,
Izo

It should be fixed in kernel update for 12.2. Install available updates.

Also, for anyone that reads this, to abort the messed up display screen shown during openSUSE startup, just press the **ESC key **(once or even twice if needed ) which will cancel the Plymouth display screen included in openSUSE 12.2. As suggested after a full system update (as suggested by arvidjaar) this problem should be fixed. It is also possible to upgrade your kernel version, which may help, and to configure Grub 2 to show text only, during system startup.

For kernel upgrades look at this: S.A.K.C. - SUSE Automated Kernel Compiler - Version 2.78 - Blogs - openSUSE Forums

To Configure Grub 2, Have a look here: GNU Grub2 Command Help/Config Editor - Version: 1.90 - Blogs - openSUSE Forums

Thank You,

Thanks guys, I’ll try the updates.

Cheers,
Izo
