Desktop apps/ICONS in KDE 4.3.3 - openSUSE 11.2

On a new installation of openSUSE 11.2, desktop icons for OpenOffice and Firefox have a red mark (as given in Pict 1), and on double-click the respective apps don’t run and give the error message as in Picts 2 and 3. This is on logging-in as normal user.

I had same problem with openSUSE 11.1/KDE 4.3.1 earlier, and posted it here in oS forums at:
KDE 4.3.1 Desktop (Configuration) Errors - openSUSE Forums

Had expected that KDE 4.3 in oS 11.2 would not have this problem, but it persists in a fresh install of openSUSE 11.2 done after reformatting the / and /home partitions.

Any other users with a similar problem ? Also, any suggestions to correct this (it stays the same even after re-boot) ?

Thanks,

Switch to the Folder View rather than the Desktop Containment with the folder widget (in fact delete that folder for now)

When you have the folder view, configure to Desktop as in your folder, but it will occupy the whole desktop.
With the widgets still in unlock delete one of the launchers
Go to the menu and find the app you just removed, right click add to desktop

do they respond differently
